RVYC Junior Training Program (Summer Sailing)

The Royal Vancouver Yacht Club offers the complete Sail Canada CANSail program delivered through our summer Junior Training Program.

RVYC membership is not required to enroll, members and non-members are equally welcome. Membership benefits include early registration, and discounted class fees.

Helmets designed for water-sports are recommended but not required. They are highly recommended for students that are new to sailing.

Sumer Race Team (2 Wks)

Pre-Requisite: two session of CANSail ADVANCED (and/or CANSail 4)

This two week course mirrors a development race team training schedule and for sailors 14+. Sailors train in the RS Feva XL dinghy as well as the Laser/Laser Radial/Laser 4.7 (please note that sessions ‘A’ and ‘C’ are Laser only, and sessions ‘B’ and ‘D’ are mixed RS Feva and Laser). The curriculum focuses on advanced teamwork skills, high level boat handling, tuning, rules, tactics, strategy, and racing. In this course, students will be introduced to the fundamental components of becoming an athlete, such as keeping a training journal, fitness and health, sports nutrition, and injury prevention. All sailors that participate in this course are encouraged to attend the end-of-summer Commodores’ Cup Regatta.

Couse manual is BC Sailing CanSail 5 & 6 ($24).

Class times are 0900-1530 hrs.

Sailors must bring their own government-approved P.F.D. (lifejacket) and appropriate clothing, including at least one change of clothes and soft-soled footwear (NO Flip-Flops), as well as lunch and a lock for day lockers. Please do not bring clothing items that can't get wet! Wetsuits/drysuits are not required, but some participants find wearing one more comfortable.

Please be advised that the RVYC kitchen is unable to accommodate food allergies with the "Hot Lunch Programme" and we recommend students with food allergies please bring their own lunch.

Cancellations & Refunds

Without exception, NO REFUNDS will be given for cancellations made 14 days or less prior to the start of a course.

All accepted registrations are subject to a cancellation fee of $50 before June 26 and $100.00 after June 26.

If placed on a waitlist, interest in enrolment is assumed unless RVYC is notified otherwise. When a vacancy arises, automatic enrolment in the course occurs and cancellation rules, as outlined above, take effect.
